So, how did this all start?... Longer ago than I?d care to remember! A rumble and a growl and I was hooked: I had to have one.
My first TVR was an F reg Vixen - the one with the Mark 1 Cortina rear light cluster. It was in need of a lot of care and attention - and that?s what I gave it. Many happy hours spent in a cold garage painting the chassis and completely re-wiring it... After many months of work, it finally passed its MoT and I had a few short weeks of enjoyment before my first wife parked it in a tree and it had to go to that great breaker?s yard in the sky.
Years passed and a string of company cars meant that I could not justify having a TVR just for fun. However, times and tax laws changed and the experience gained in writing a number of computer books (a sideline developed as a result of my day job) meant that by 1995 I could consider a new venture: writing articles and perhaps books on TVRs. In order to do that, I would need to do a lot of research ? and how could I possibly do that without owning several of the cars myself?
My first TVR book - on the S series - was published in 1997. That was followed by a book on the Wedges and third on the Griffith and Chimaera. The S book and the Griffith and Chimaera book are now in second edition and I am currently writing a Cerbera book, having taken a high mileage Cerbera to bits, rebuilt it and fitted a new engine with the help of Dave and Mark at Tower View Race Services.
I first started designing and making parts for my own cars after buying a Wedge 390SE to take sprinting and hill climbing. That car has now evolved into the infamous 520SE, known affectionately as the "Purple Shed". The engine has now been supercharged and planning for the 2008/9 campaign has started.
People soon started taking an interest in the parts I was developing for my own cars and so when I had the opportunity to give up the day job at the end of 2004, I decided I would put these parts into production for others to enjoy. The product range has gradually expanded - and continues to do so, in response to comments and enquiries from owners. So, if you have a good idea, or just a niggling problem that needs a solution - and perhaps might be interested in helping me develop it.
